Aphrodite's Children (2025). A theatrical performance directed by Vasilis Panayis about the history of Cyprus since the 1950s. It begins with the EOKA struggle for independence from British rule. The British, in order to suppress the uprising, formed the Auxiliary Police Force, consisting of Turkish Cypriots, which intensified intercommunal tensions. In 1960, Cyprus gained its independence and the Republic of Cyprus was established.
Despite the unrest between 1963-1967, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots continued to live together until the coup of the Greek junta on 15 July 1974. This led to the Turkish invasion on 20 July and the division of the island. Thousands of people were displaced and many are still missing.
On 23 April 2003, after 30 years, the checkpoints were opened and the two communities began to visit their villages and homes again. From this point on, the modern narrative of Cypriot history begins.
